Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's departure the family, it was taken care of by her mother, grandmother as well as godparents. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder based on the word association when she was a teenager. Ford began to be attracted to acting when she was a teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of weeks, she realized this school wasn't for her. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth application she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. She made her television debut on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Tate was a part of such TV shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate also performed regularly at the theater, ultimately being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate was recognized as a stand-up comedian and was added to her repertoire in the year 1996.
